Renowned Artist Anastasija Komarnyckyj Unveils Captivating Exhibition: "Moments of Insight.

Anastasija Komarnyckyj is set to unveil her latest body of work, "Moments of Insight," a captivating exploration of the essence of medieval village life. The exhibition, expressed through the fundamental mediums of drawing, mixed media, and ceramics, offers a unique perspective on history, vulnerability, and the simplicity of life within the medieval village setting.

The inspiration for this extraordinary collection struck Komarnyckyj during an Artist-in-Residence (AIR) program in 2016 at Draw International in Caylus, a charming village nestled in the Midi Pyrenees of France. The picturesque village, steeped in history, provided the perfect backdrop for the artist to observe the layers of time within its architectural structures and the way of life reminiscent of bygone eras.

Komarnyckyj, arriving at the close of winter, found herself immersed in the breathtaking beauty of the European landscape, a stark contrast to her native Western Australia. The limited art supplies and materials sourced from the local hardware store became the catalyst for a series of works that eloquently reference the passage of time and the post-winter bleakness of the rural environment.

The drawings, characterized by the integration of collage, embody the primitive additions, repairs, or adornments of the village structures. Life in the village, as depicted by Komarnyckyj, becomes an assemblage – a harmonious blend of routine and immersion within an old newness.

Post-residency, Komarnyckyi's fascination with village life deepened, drawing from her own family history as a descendant of European migrants. Extending her representation to the medium of ceramics, the artist has meticulously handcrafted explorative and fictional structures. These ceramic dwellings, exhibited alongside the wall art, serve as an evocative reminder of the basic nature of existence in other parts of the world.

"Moments of Insight" is not merely an art exhibition; it is an immersive journey into history, culture, and the shared human experience. Anastasija Komarnyckyi's ability to breathe life into her creations offers viewers a unique opportunity to connect with the past while contemplating the timeless essence of human existence.

The exhibition will be on display at Bond Store, Old Courthouse Complex from 1 February to 27 February.
