I am a Noongar/Yamatji/Aussie woman and mother, and I was raised in the Southwest of WA. I have been evolving as an artist since a very young age, and after years of experimentation with styles, techniques and mediums during my search for my own ‘voice’, my art has blossomed with earthy undertones of my Noongar heritage and connection to Country. I feel compelled to and enjoy exploring themes around womanhood, motherhood, the Spirit, healing, mental health and expression. I believe my artistic process is a form of healing, and art is very much a part of my Being. Working with acrylics or oils, my paintings happen intuitively and often lead the way. They usually feature hands, faces, figures, flora and fauna from Wardandi Noongar boodja. In recent years I have been humbled to receive three local art awards.
Moment to moment, that which we seek can be found at the tip of our fingers. Striking, yet soft, Polychrome presents a vision of Culture and Spirit bleeding through to our binary perspective. A blend of colourful indigenous-style marks juxtapose the muted tones of the figures - not to highlight what we are lacking, but what possibilities we can invite in and explore - a space that any person of any race can touch if they dare. Twelve figurative paintings make up this exhibition.
