Living on the Edge

Trish Waters

07/06 - 16/07/24

Artist Statement

Trish Waters' art is deeply rooted in her connection to the land and her experiences living on the edge of various landscapes, including the Indian Ocean, salt lakes, and deserts. Through her artwork, she grapples with the complexities of displacement and her family's history in Australia, while also honouring the knowledge passed down by Noongar elders.

"I have always lived on the edge – the edge of the Indian Ocean, the edge of salt lakes and deserts, the edge of being an artist, the edge of mainstream society," says Trish Waters. "My art explores my place within this ancient landscape. It’s my meditation and delight, giving me solace from daily stresses as well as the freedom to breathe deeply and connect with life’s essence."

The exhibition will feature a vibrant collection of paintings and basketry pieces, showcasing Trish Waters' unique perspective on the fragile and unique environment of south-western Australia. Through her use of colour, shape, and form, she aims to evoke a sense of peace and tranquillity amidst the challenges of contemporary life.
