We, the Gremi Artesà Tèxtil de Catalunya, welcome you to a journey through the threads of our shared existence. Within the historic walls of the Busselton Cultural Precinct, Old Court House, we present nine evocative textile works, each crafted by the hands and hearts of nineteen dedicated textile artisan artists. This collection, centred on “The Anthropocene,” is the soul of this year’s Eco Fashion Week Australia.
In every fibre and stitch, we pour our emotions, our concerns, and our hopes. The Anthropocene, an era marked by humanity’s profound impact on our planet, is both our muse and our plea. Through a rich tapestry of techniques—traditional loom, crochet, knitting machine weaving, embroidery, pleating, botanical printing, silk stamping, free quilting, couture, upcycling, mattress making techniques, felting, tapestry, and innovative textile-media —we express the intricate dance between human activity and the natural world.
Our works are not just art; they are a call to awareness and action. They speak of environmental change, resilience, and the urgent need for sustainable practices. The textures and patterns invite you to feel the weight of our collective responsibility and the beauty of our potential to create change.
El Anthropoceno will be showing in the Old Courthouse Complex from 2 - 30 November. Artists include Sylvia Calvo, Flavia Flores Allende, Monica Noguero, Babeus, Merce Paytuvi, Diana Hernandez, Anna Albert, Ana Parraga, Laia Aguila, Carles Casas, Silvia Marinas, Emma Martinez, Colette Barcelona, Nuna Conesa, Maria Do Carmo Petiz, Gemma Pampalona, Cecilia Gonzalez, Merce Gonzalez, Angels Perramon, and Monica Doria.
