Sandy Winkle’s work is a stunning fusion of photography, textiles, and cultural exploration. Her handwoven baskets, crafted from recycled silk saris, blend sustainability with artistic expression. The addition of jewellery within her baskets adds an intricate layer of storytelling, reflecting the diverse cultures and landscapes that inspire her. Through these works, she invites viewers to connect more deeply with both the physical artistry and the experiences they represent.
A celebrated photographer, Sandy was recently named runner-up in the 2024 Australian Photographer of the Year award (Aerial category). Her breathtaking aerial imagery extends her exploration of global landscapes, revealing both grand vistas and intimate cultural moments. This achievement highlights her exceptional ability to capture both the beauty of the world from above and the intricate details of life on the ground.
This exhibition offers a rare opportunity to experience Sandy Winkle’s multidisciplinary approach to art. Whether through the tactile beauty of her woven baskets or the expansive vision of her photography, her work tells stories that transcend borders and traditions.
